Laying a Foundation for a Harmonious Relationship Between Pets & Parents.

COMMON QUESTIONS
What People Are Asking Us
HOW DO WE GET OUR DOGS TO DO WHAT THEY DO?
Here at Guiding Pets & Parents we use E-Collar technologies line of educators as our tool of choice. These e-collars come pre-programmed with 100 levels that allow us the greatest amount of comfort and control depending on the situation that presents itself.
WHAT IS AN E-COLLAR?
The Educators line uses a system that employs wide pulse stimulation. The e-collar consists of a remote paired with a collar that establishes communication with your pup. You may have even used a similar system if you have ever required musculoskeletal physical therapy.
WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?
It is a light tingle sensation. Just as your dog would feel a tug on the leash we use the e-collar to tap your pup on the shoulder.
HOW OLD DOES MY DOG NEED TO BE TO START TRAINING? IS THERE SUCH A THING AS TOO OLD?
We can begin training as early as four months old.
Aging pet parents often ask this question, the answer is no! No dog is ever to old to learn a new skill. While older dogs do not learn as fast as the younger dogs they are fully capable of mentally withstanding training.
HOW DO I CHOSE WHICH PROGRAM IS RIGHT FOR MY DOG AND I?
Ask yourself "where do I lack control with my dog and wish that I didn't?" That may be as simple as at your neighborhood park or possibly wanting to visit your local pet friendly stores.
Give us a call today to schedule a consultation with one of our trainers if you still aren't sure!
WILL TRAINING CHANGE MY DOGS PERSONALITY?
Absolutely not! Dog training is a lot like sending your child off to college, while their behavior and choices may change, the person (or dog in your case) is still the same person but with more experience and education to make better decisions.
WHAT IS YOUR APPROACH TO TRAINING?
At Guiding Pets & Parents we use a balanced approach to training to improve the relationship between pets and their parents.
WHAT IS A BOARD AND TRAIN?
A board and train program is a dog training program where your dog boards with a trainer for a decided period of time. During this time your dog receives daily playtime, exercise, and training.
WHY SHOULD I DO A BOARD & TRAIN INSTEAD OF A LESSON BASED PROGRAM?
Lessons are an awesome way to be hands on through your dogs learning curve, they allow you to be closely involved in your dogs training. Lesson programs are awesome for families who have the time commitment it takes to meet with a trainer weekly and practice daily on their own to teach their pup new behaviors while board and trains accelerate the learning curve for clients who don't have enough time to work with their dog on their own time. Board & train programs are also well rounded not only does your dog receive training but they get adequate exercise as well as socialization which is a critical part of training as a dog most learn how to safely and reliably behave around another dog.
